With the summer heat, you’ll want your hair out of your face and out of your way, and there’s no better style for this than a simple ponytail! But why not spruce it up? In honor of international superstar Ariana Grande gracing us with her presence this month at the Schott, I’ve created an easy go- to lookbook for Ari-inspired hairstyles! With just a handful of these inexpensive and light- weight accessories, your ponytail game will be on the same level as the pop star’s.
ON TREND: Pearls
An easy way to emulate Miss Grande is to throw on a pearl headband. In her early days circa 2013, the singer sometimes wore cute headbands to match her outfits. Honestly, think Blair Waldorf and her minions for this one! This is simple, classy, and more wear- able on a day-to-day basis than her signature cat ear headbands.
ON TREND: Big Clips
Another easy look to try out is adding long clips to your hair! They can be just for dec- oration on the sides of your head, they can tame flyaways, or they can hold up your not- long-enough-to-make-it-up-into-the-pony- tail hair in the back. That’s the look we went for here. It just adds a little extra something to the look! If you’re a fan of a ponytail with bangs swooped over your ear, then you can use the clips to keep the bangs in place. I feel like this is the accessory option that could swap out the ponytail for a large bun, or bet- ter yet, space buns! Ideal for festivals or any hot day.
CLASSIC ARI: Dangerous Woman Ears
If you do wanna be a little extra, you can go all out with this gold wired ribbon look. Buy a wired ribbon in any color and twist it around itself to resemble bunny ears. Ariana made this look popular after wearing a black bunny ear mask on her 2016 “Dangerous Woman” album cover, and then wearing similar bunny ears throughout that tour and for different photoshoots and performances. If you find a smaller ribbon, you could wrap it around the base of the ponytail instead.
CLASSIC ARI: Hair Rings
The final look, and my personal favorite, includes adding hair rings. My rings came 18 in a pack, so I divided them six per row, but you could also do just one row going up the middle, or as many rows as you’d like! Also, it may be easier to hook the rings into your hair if you have little braids feeding into ponytail like Ariana usually does, but it’ll look just fine with straight hair. Just open up the lit- tle rings and then close them into your hair. You can really have fun with this one! I chose hair rings, but alternatives could be small butterfly clips, colorful bobby pins, glitter, or ribbon entwined in the braid! Additionally, I added a silver ponytail cone at the base of the ponytail to give the illusion of more height.
TIE IT ALL TOGETHER: Makeup & ‘Fit
And of course, finish off any of these looks with simple, natural-looking makeup but with Ari’s killer winged eyeliner and lash- es if you want! A more recognizable Ariana outfit would probably be an oversized sweat- shirt paired with thigh-high boots but…. it’s July. We can’t do that in this Ohio heat. So I styled a dark floral ruched-front top and black shorts with a tied belt. I personally love rings, so I wore lots of them, and added a pearl choker and my favorite silver earrings.
