The Campus Ghost Town Guide: Retro Night

Looking to kill time while you have to stay on campus for an internship not paying you enough or classes that just get in the way? Want it to have a nostalgic feel? Here’s an idea for a night on the town this week while staying in Columbus.

Place to Eat: Michael’s Goody Boy Diner

This nostalgic diner with the big yellow sign is a great way to start your retro night. With burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches and more, Michael’s gives you that old-fashioned feel that will bring you back, but while also offering up some great eats to start the night off right.

Place to Drink: Local Bar

From the food, you can get a feel of 1970s nostalgia at Local Bar. This is a location that screams peace and love and the 70s, while also making sure that they are inclusive in everything they do. Local Bar has enough of a retro feel to keep the theme rolling, and they will help to keep the drinks flowing.

Thing to Do: “2001: A Space Odyssey” in 70mm

To end of your night of living in the past, the Gateway Film Center is showing one of the most iconic films of the 1960s all week, and in a special format that brings out the stunning imagery even further. “2001: A Space Odyssey” is very much what its title says: an odyssey. This is a film meant to blow your damn mind, and its visuals have not aged a bit in the 50 years since its release. This is the perfect way to end your night, as you get to watch a piece of history they way it was meant to be seen: on the big screen in 70mm.
