Students Create Petition For OSU To Refund Housing, Dining Costs

As the costs of attending college in the U.S. rise every year, students at Ohio State are concerned about the expenses that they’re – as of March 12 – expected to swallow after the COVID-19 spring semester move-out was announced.

Johnathan Kacherski, a computer science and engineering student at Ohio State, started a petition yesterday that already has 15K growing signatures requesting that the university, which made $7 billion in revenue in 2018, take on the financial burden of unused housing, dining, and in-person tuition costs.

The petition reads, “While the spread of the 2019 novel coronavirus is ultimately out of the control of the university, it is completely unreasonable for the student body to pay the full cost of tuition and, if applicable, housing.”
