Sidelines With Tanner Laczynski

Ohio State might be known for its stellar athletes on the football field and, recently back on the basketball court, but that doesn’t mean you should forget about the men’s ice hockey team. The Buckeyes are hot on the ice right now holding down the 5th ranked spot in the top 10 in the midst of the season.

Over the weekend, the Buckeyes and the Spartans of Michigan State had a two-game showdown in Columbus where the two squads split wins. In the Buckeyes’ 4-2 victory on Saturday, sophomore forward Tanner Laczynski was able to chip in an assist on the offensive end and continue his hot streak after recently being named Big Ten Second Star of the Week in mid-January. Though the loss on Saturday ended his 10-game streak of scoring at least one point, this adds to his already impressive season where he’s scored 12 goals in addition to his 25 assists.

But besides helping the Buckeyes protect their winning ways, Laczynski is a sports industry major walking around campus, studying for exams, and just living the normal college life—that is if the normal college life includes being drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers.

Going to practice and playing in games is a lot like a job where it consumes much of your free time. What’s your secret to balancing practice and athletic schedules and going to class?

Just try not to worry too much and stay calm and don’t stress. Once you start to stress is when it becomes too much. Take it one day at a time and try and win the day.

What are your tips for getting yourself out of bed when you really just do not want to go to class/the gym?

The regret I know I’ll feel later if I didn’t do it wins out.

If you could wave a magic wand over your wardrobe, what’s one thing you would change?

Get a really comfortable bathrobe.

What is one outfit you are embarrassed you own (past or present)?

A Rocky onesie.

What class would you recommend to your worst enemy?
