Last Week in Buckeye Basketball: Week 8

Men’s Basketball

Weekly record: 1-0

Season record: 11-1

Only one game this week for the men’s basketball team, but it was a good one. Riding high on their freshly minted No. 13 AP ranking, the Bucks steamrolled High Point 82-64. Senior guard C.J. Jackson had one of his most impressive outings of the season with 20 points, 3 assists, 2 steals and a block. Andre Wesson also had a field day on the glass as he grabbed 9 boards and contributed 10 points and 4 assists.

HOWEVER: The highlight of the game wasn’t Jackson’s 20 points or Wesson’s 10 and 9. The highlight of the game came near the end, when the game was well in hand for the Buckeyes. In garbage time, when our hero Joey Lane entered the game and sank a three.

Not only was this shot perhaps the most iconic in history (move over, Evan Turner and Aaron Craft), it also secured Big Macs for everyone in attendance. What a shot, honestly. We stan Joey Lane, and we will miss him so much when he graduates.

The team’s next game is on Saturday, Jan. 5 vs. Michigan State.

Women’s Basketball

Weekly record: 0-1

Season record: 4-6

Opening up #ConferencePlaySzn, the women’s basketball squad dropped their matchup to Purdue 60-42. The game was the team’s worst offensive performance of the season. Only one Buckeye player (Carmen Grande, 11) scored over 10 points while all others were held under 7. Dorka Juhasz, who has been phenomenal all season, was held to a very quiet 2 points, 7 rebounds and a block. Najah Queenland represented the only player on the roster with a positive +/- at 1.

The team’s next game is Monday, Dec. 31 vs. Nebraska.
