Am I the only one who thinks this shit is news-worthy?
Fourth Street. My go-to burger place on campus. My favorite Thursday night dinner that is generously priced and the highest of quality. The deal that makes my mouth water just thinking about it right now: $3 burgers on Thursdays. I would show up at 5, grab a beer, and feast on a burger dipped in a Midwesterner’s dream ranch.
And then two weeks ago I got burgers with my mother. “Before I put this in,” said our waiter, “I just want to let you know our $3 deal changed.”
“Yeahhhhh now it’s $4.50 a burger. But all the topping prices are the same.”
Okay, $4.50 isn’t terrible, honestly if anything I was being a little greedy expecting to get a burger this good for $3 like who even does that ya know? I should be more–
“And it doesn’t start until 7.”
I take pride in the fact that I make the most of Fourth Street Bar & Grill before the air becomes as sticky as the floors and bodies are pressed skin-to-skin during karaoke nights or post-Crew games. Fourth Street during happy hour is absolutely bomb and $3 burger Thursdays are THE BEST DEAL I’VE EVER HEARD OF IN MY LIFE. But now they’re moving the deal to a higher price (fine) but outside of dinner time?! (Not fine).
There’s no point to this article other than I think the people deserve to know about the change before closing in on the patio, stomach growling, last $3 until payday in hand. (Was I the only one who saved up $6 in quarters every Wednesday to afford a Mad Mex margarita? Just me? The upset but financially irresponsible one? Huh.)
I still love Fourth Street burgers. I love their karaoke. And I love their love for the students and the crew. But if a burger lover like me has a heart that can break like this, I’m sure someone else’s can, too. This must be what Grandpa felt like when the price of bread went up for more than a quarter. Sigh. Growing up sucks sometimes, but if anyone deserves my last $4.50, it’s definitely still Fourth Street Bar and Grill.
