(Sorry about the headline, we’ll get to it later) Ohio State quarterback Tate Martell has entered the transfer portal, which means other schools can reach out to him for a potential transfer. This news comes on the heels of recent Georgia-to-Ohio-State transfer Justin Fields applying for eligibility to play in the upcoming season.
wait a second…
Tate Martell’s real name is…
Folks, I understand the importance of transfer news and the implications on the revenue machine that is Ohio State football, but Tate Martell’s legal first name is Tathan. Do you know what this means for names that end in -ate? Every Kate you know is now Kathan. You can no longer ask your significant other out on a date, only a dathan. I hathan myself for writing this paragraph.
Anyways, I guess the important news is that Tate Martell seems to be on the way out while Justin Fields will likely step in and become the starting quarterback next season. Fields is a transfer from Georgia who is tied for the 8th highest rated recruit of all-time on 247/. Just for some comparison: Trevor Lawrence, the true freshman quarterback at Clemson who recently diced up Alabama’s defense in the national championship is tied for 6th of all-time.
While Fields will have to wait and ensure he is eligible to play next season, all signs point to it happening. Evidently, two schools in early contention to land Martell are West Virginia and Miami:
(But, again, I really think the important thing here is that Tate’s first name is Tathan.)
