Boujee Booze: March

Expand your drinking palate with this monthly installment of new booze.

The coldest months are behind us and constant warm weather is finally on the horizon. The Oval squirrels are crawling out of hibernation, and going out during the week is all the more tempting. Spring Break is coming soon enough, with many opportunities to kick back and try out some new drinks during a night (or day) of drinking. Kiss those extra layers goodbye and celebrate with a glass of either of these beverages.

BEER: Shock Top Belgian White

The Shock Top logo screams nice weather —an orange peel with sunglasses and a mohawk of wheat. Initially distributed as a seasonal beer, it is now common enough to find on tap at your local bar or in a 6-pack at the liquor store. The Belgian White is fairly light and won’t fill up your stomach after having a few rounds. Brewed in orange, lemon, and lime peels, Shock Top tastes like a blend of all the wonderful cocktail garnishes married with a smooth ale. The 5.2% ABV is an added bonus to this citrus flavor and against competing mainstream brands. Condensation slipping down the sides of this amber-colored brew in a pint glass is a beautiful sight, so be sure to snag one next time you’re out.

Going heavy on the vitamin C for this edition of Boujee Booze, next up is the classic Tequila Sunrise. The simple combination of tequila, orange juice, and a splash of grenadine is a versatile combination for anytime and anywhere. If you’ve never tried tequila and don’t want to go through the process of taking the shot, order the sunrise. If you’re not a fan of mimosas or screwdrivers, this is a great alternative to get that morning OJ in at Sunday brunch. The best part? It’s a wells drink. That means it is included in all those wonderful bar deals each weekend. The Tequila Sunrise is a versatile go-to if you’re feeling a bit adventurous but don’t want to spend too much. On the other hand, If you’re feeling a bit more high-class, you can opt for a better tasting tequila from a higher shelf. The mixture also resembles an elegant sunrise, so if you’re looking for an attractive view to match your drink, I’d highly recommend this one.
