Friday Night Magic

Sorry, we don’t mean magic shows, we mean card games. Magic: The Gathering has been around since 1993 and in its 23 years of play has firmly secured itself as a titan in card games. Grizzled veterans and fresh newbies alike are welcome at The Soldiery to participate in a tournament sanctioned by the game’s creators themselves.

The Columbus Beer Run

Location: Land-Grant Brewing Company Time: 12:00 p.m. Admission: $50

COTA:2 to the 6, 12, 15

As part of Columbus Craft Beer Week, runners (or walkers) can sample craft beers at each lap, then come to an after-party at Land-Grant Brewing Company, complete with music, food trucks, contests, and more beer. And these aren’t dinky samples; the site is estimating about 40 ounces across the whole run, so come prepared not only with some comfortable running clothes, but maybe a loaf of bread or two in your stomach.

Plenty of us played with Lego when we were younger. Some of us never stopped. The BrickUniverse LEGO Convention is for both Lego fans young and old. Check out some crazy constructions at The Fan Zone, test your speed and building skills at The Challenge Zone, or pick up new parts at the Brick Market. Don’t forget, the plural of Lego is Lego!

EXXXOTICA, the largest event in the U.S. for love and sex, will feature over 100 vendors, stage acts and educational seminars. Stop by sometime over the weekend, whether for date-night, bachelor or bachelorette parties or just a chance at some unique people watching. Dude, it’s a porn convention.

12th Annual Cornhole Tournament for Autism

Location: 1495 Wyandotte Rd, Columbus, OH 43212

Time: 2:00 p.m. Admission: $20 per team COTA:2 to the 5, 19

This double elimination format is sure to be a hell of a time. Grab a friend and enter the bracket for a chance to win a shiny new trophy, as well as the opportunity to help the non-profit Autism Speaks. Food and kegs will be provided at the event and, if your cornhole game is lacking, you could still take home one of several prizes as a part of their raffle. All ll those hours of drinking and cornhole finally have a higher purpose.

Community Commitment

Join over 1,000 Buckeyes at Pay It Forward’s 20th Annual Community Commitment, one of the largest single-day community service events held on a college campus! Since 1997, this event had allowed OSU students the opportunity to connect with the Columbus community by coming together to serve. Students serve alongside one another at local agencies such as COSI, food pantries, the Columbus Zoo, and a variety of other nonprofits.

Beatbox Workshop

Location: Wild Goose Creative Time: 7 p.m.

SYMAB (Shut Your Mouth and Beatbox) & Beatbox Ohio offer workshops for beginner and professional beatboxers. Held at the Wild Goose Creative on Summit St., anyone is welcome to stop by to learn about beatbox and mic techniques and stage presence, as well as experience performing in front of an audience.

Rock & Roll Trivia

What song did the remaining members of Led Zeppelin refuse to play live due to its widespread misinterpretation? Spacebar is a great Columbus spot for live music or meeting up with friends, but they also hold Rock & Roll Trivia every Wednesday night. So grab a drink and prepare for some of the best trivia in Columbus. The answer is “Stairway to Heaven,” by the way..

College Night at Vertical Adventures

Location: Vertical Adventures Time: All Day First Friday of Each Month Admission: $7 COTA: 2

With over 15,000 square feet and 45 foot high climbing walls, Vertical Adventures is the place to be if you’re looking for an indoor climbing experience outside of the ARC. Rock climbing is a full body sport that works both the mind and the body and, for less than $10, is a great way to spend a Friday night with friends.
