Breakaway Music Festival returns to Columbus with EDM-Heavy Lineup
Breakaway Music Festival sets out to cement itself in Columbus’ culture by returning to Mapfre Stadium for the third year in a row. On August 23 and 24, the stadium will host a bevy of musicians performing from the Electronic Dance Music and Rap genres.
High profile rappers Future and Young Thug are set to headline on Friday the 23rd and are sure to garner mosh pits from the crowd and memorable moments on stage. Young Thug performed at the Schottenstein Center last September as an opening act for J. Cole’s KOD Tour, so Columbus fans get another chance to hear and see him live on stage. The third big headliner for Friday is Californian R&B singer Blackbear, who was actually a performer for the 2017 edition of the festival. Matoma, a Norwegian DJ and EDM artist, is the final big name of the night.
The second night will be led by EDM giant Bassnectar (who performed at the 2013 introduction of the festival!), duo Louis the Child, and British producer Troyboi. 2019 XXL Freshman Lil Mosey is newer on the scene and also gets top billing for this night. DaBaby was also booked but has recently cancelled.
Dozens of additional performers are set to hit the stage both nights:
Last year, the festival extended to a three-day lineup for the Columbus dates, but will return to just Friday and Saturday as it has previously been. Breakaway’s festivities will end around 11 p.m. each night, with Friday’s activities starting at 4 p.m. and Saturday starting an hour earlier.
The Grand Rapids, MI edition of this festival will coincide with our weekend, with a handful of the same artists performing reversed dates. Roadtrip-lovers can also catch the festival in Charlotte, North Carolina and Nashville, Tennessee in early October.
The annual event, promoted by Prime Social Group, will also feature local food trucks and other vendors, a silent disco, and a new Roller Disco rink coming this year!
