Last week Dr. Sheldon Retchin, the CEO of the Wexner Medical Center stepped down after a series of letters to the university criticizing his performance placed him negatively in the public eye.
A lot of Ohio State’s most prominent doctors and professors at the Medical Center and College of Medicine signed the letters which were eventually sent on to President Drake, Provost Bruce McPheron, members of the Board of Trustees at Ohio State and Les Wexner, chairman of the medical center’s board.
The letters stated many issues with Retchin including questionable hiring practices and poor collaboration between the Medical Center and the James Cancer Hospital, which separated the two in a “Us vs. Them” style. The first of the letters also placed Retchin’s leadership at the forefront of causes for early retirements and recognition of doctors, which has lead to vacancies in the medical center.
While Retchin claims these allegations as untrue, he is still stepping down as the letters making it into the public eye have hurt his reputation.
Poor Retchin. Sad! On the brighter side, the same time that this information was released, the bar Too’s Spirits Under High announced that they would be relocating to be Three’s Spirits Above High and since college students care more about drinking until they’re hospitalized and not what happens when they actually get there, none of the students really noticed.
