A pair of Best Picture winners and a few classic comedies highlight the list of movies coming to the major streaming services this month. Here are three major releases coming to Hulu, Amazon Prime and Netflix for August.
Shaun of the Dead – August 1
mother! – August 26
The Terminator – August 31
At the top of the month is the beginning of director Edgar Wright’s genius trilogy, and arguably the best. “Shaun of the Dead” is a tremendous zombie comedy unlike any other. At the end of the month, James Cameron’s action classic makes its way to Hulu, and should be as exciting as it was when it first released in 1984. Finally, “mother!” comes to the service on the 26th, and should be watched by all, as it is arguably the most polarizing film of the decade.
The Hurt Locker – August 1
Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams – August 6
Bleed for This – August 10
Starting off August is Katheryn Bigelow’s epic on the Iraq war bomb squads that won the Best Picture in 2009. Up next is the movie from your childhood that you probably forgot about, but definitely shouldn’t have. “Spy Kids 2” is the best of the trilogy and deserves a rewatch in 2018, maybe make a drinking game for every piece of bad CGI in the process. Finally, “Bleed for This” was a overlooked release a year ago, and has Miles Teller impress from start to finish in the lead role.
Clerks – August 1
No Country for Old Men – August 11
Ozark: Season 2 – August 31
Kevin Smith’s $10,000 black-and-white masterpiece comedy comes to Netflix in the beginning of the month, and is truly one of the funniest movies of the century. Then, in the middle of the month comes the 2007 Best Picture Winner in “No Country for Old Men,” which features stunning cinematography, a compelling story and one of the best villains of all-time from Javier Bardem. Finally, closing out the month is season 2 of the wildly popular Netflix original show, “Ozark.” Starring Jason Bateman as a financial advisor dealing with a drug cartel, this new season looks to up the stakes further, and up the thrills even more.
