Whether you are picking up a few extra shifts at the restaurant or just trying to pinch a few pennies by not going on a Spring Break vacation, this handy guide will provide you with plenty of fun that won’t break your bank account.
While Ohio can be great for staycations to a major city that’s only a short drive away, Ohio also offers plenty of cozy spots for people looking to get off the grid for awhile. Sure, Cleveland and Cincinnati make for some great day trips full of busy streets and nightlife, but sometimes a little break from the hustle of the cities is exactly what you need to recharge your mind before heading back to the final grind of classes.
When it comes to a relaxing trip, there’s no better spot than Yellow Springs in southern Ohio. After your short drive down I-71, you’ll step into a quaint city that is nothing like Columbus. Finding parking is easy; you can explore the small city and all the small boutiques offered by foot; you have the option to venture out into the hills and walking paths for some hiking; or you can spend your day hopping from one bar to the next sipping on local Yellow Springs brews.
Here are some sights you gotta see when you make your way to the hippie town of Yellow Springs:
Go shopping!: There’s only a handful of roads that run through Yellow Springs, but each and everyone is loaded with shops of all different varieties. You can stop by Dark Star Books or the Epic Book Shop and grab a good read for your day on the hiking trails at the Clifton Gorge State Natural Preservation. Not a book worm? There’s plenty of shopping for clothes, home decor, and odds-and-ends pieces at shops like The Blue Butterfly, Junk Diva, and Back to Now. Want to make your trip a little more trippy? Stop by The Smoking Octopus to buy a smoking apparatus that you definitely will not refer to as a bong, and most certainly will not smoke anything other than tobacco out of it.
Get adventurous!: There’s plenty of hiking trails and nature preserves at Yellow Springs like the Clifton Gorge State Nature Reserve, Glen Helen Nature Preserve, and the John Bryan State Park. The sights are beautiful with rocky hillsides, flowing rivers and creeks, even some waterfalls. In other words, you’ll have way too many Instagram backdrop locations to choose from. If you just aren’t feeling like walking through these trails, check out places like Village Cyclery or the Little Miami Scenic Trail to view the city on two wheels!
Go see a psychic: Worried about passing organic chemistry this semester? Wondering if Jessica S. will ever be yours? Just want to get a glimpse of your future? Check out the House of Ravenwood where they offer psychic tarot readings on Wednesday to Sunday. We really have no clue how these work, so who wants to write a story about it for us?!
