Mad Mex is the latest domino to fall in the South Campus Gateway, as first reported by The Columbus Dispatch.
The restaurant closed its doors on Monday, although no reason has been given (yet). The restaurant also has not released an official statement concerning the closing of the campus location. Mad Mex, a Pittsburgh-based company, has 12 other locations, all in Pennsylvania.
Mad Mex follows a few other campus staples, like Ugly Tuna, in closing down after their lease was not renewed with Campus Partners.
Mad Mex was gateway’s first restaurant and has been a mainstay on campus since 2005.
Christiana Moffa, Gateway’s property manager, gave a statement regarding the closing of Mad Mex.
“We were sad to learn of the Mad Mex closure on Monday. We are excited about the opportunity to bring a new tenant to this high profile space that fronts High Street.
There are several new restaurants and retailers we will be announcing in the coming weeks at Gateway and we look forward to sharing their names soon.”
This story will be updated with more details as they become available.
