Bartenders come in all shapes and sizes, and from all walks of life. Who’s to say who is best equipped to give you what you need when you sit down across the bar? Bartenders. Professional babysitters, part-time psychologists, and a drunk’s best friend in the moment. When you need to know the best spots to get your drink on around campus and who to chat up when you’re there, we’ve got you.
How long have you been bartending?
I’ve been bartending for about two years, but served here for a year before that.
What’s your favorite drink to make?
When I’m really busy, I like to make Long Islands. I like to pick up four bottles at once and show off for a second.
What’s your favorite drink to drink?
I hate to order it at another bar, but when I make it myself, it’s Tito’s, soda, and a splash of cranberry. I feel like it’s a little high maintenance when I order it at other places.
What drink do you hate to make?
I don’t know that there’s really a drink I hate to make. I think I more often hate when someone’s like, “Hey let me get an Old Fashioned,” and I have to tell them we don’t have bitters for it, and they just order something else. Like, you’re just ordering an Old Fashioned to sound cool.
What are your hobbies outside the bar?
Probably my dog. I take him to the dog park every couple days and spend a few hours there. But I work here like six days a week, so I don’t really have many hobbies.
What’s your favorite video game?
Guitar Hero. I’ve been searching on Craigslist for a Guitar Hero set for my PS3 for a while now.
What’s your favorite TV show?
“The Office.” I just watched the entire series all the way through for the second time. I love Michael Scott.
Are there any promotions we need to know about at E&T?
Sometimes I feel like our happy hour is a little underrated. Every Monday through Friday, 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. is half off all drinks and liquor, Tuesdays and Thursdays we do $5 nachos, and then Saturday and Sunday happy hour is 2 p.m. till 7 p.m., and it’s half off all beer and liquor. We also have a really big Trivia event on Tuesdays.
What makes E&T such a great bar?
I really like everyone I work with. We have a great staff, and I feel like I’m part of a little family. We also have a slightly older crowd that can get rowdy but they’re still respectful.
What’s your favorite drinking Holiday?
Halloween. It’s really funny to take a step back to watch people and be like “hey do you see Batman and Marry Poppins over there?” It’s fun seeing crazy costumes and people in here.
What would make for your ideal bar?
I kind of think this place, but with our game room back. I think any bar that has games or something more to do than just sit at the bar–even just a place with a pool table or something like that.
What’s the nastiest thing you’ve encountered while working behind the bar?
I watched a kid throw back a shot of Fireball, and when he came back down, he projectile vomited all over the entire bar. A lot of people were too drunk to notice and would walk up and put their arms in it, and we’d be like, “wait, give us a second we have to clean that up!”
There was also a girl that we stopped outside who wanted to use the bathroom an hour after we closed. We told her she couldn’t come inside, and so she just squatted and peed right in front of all of us. We saw everything. It was gross.
There was also a really drunk girl one block party weekend who was dancing in the lot next door who pooped herself. It was running down her leg and everything. But those block parties are like a whole different world.
What’s the weirdest thing that’s happened while you were working?
Well, on our slowest Friday we’ve ever had, we go upstairs, and the bathroom toilet is completely kicked off of the ground and sideways. There was water shooting in the air, and the sink was ripped off the wall. Somehow, someone snuck in there and did it without anyone noticing.
