Ball on a Budget: Date Spots Around Campus

No one expects a college student to really be raking in the cash, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a nice date night. Regardless of how much money you’ve got in your wallet at the moment, there’s always a ways to enjoy a night out with your significant other. That being said, one of the best spots is Gateway Film Center. With tickets often on sale at the DTix counter in the Union for $3 and only $6 apiece if you pay at the theater, this is a cheap way to catch a movie and have a nice evening. Just be sure to eat beforehand so you aren’t paying a ton for popcorn.

The Franklin Park Conservatory is another place where DTix will help you out. Tickets are only $5 at the desk and this place is pretty magical. It’s a little further out of the way, but just use the 8 COTA bus to get to downtown, then switch over to the 10 COTA to get off at the Broad and Franklin Park Conservatory stop, then enjoy your afternoon. You’ll be surrounded by flowers, butterflies and more, so this place is as magical as you want it to be.

One that (in my opinion) doesn’t get enough credit is the Columbus Museum of Art. Free tickets at the DTix counter, some awesome interactive art pieces (my personal favorites are any exhibit where I can build with Legos) and lots of fine art to make you feel high class is in store. Be sure to dress a little nicer than you would to sit in an auditorium in the dark for a movie.

The Funny Bone Cafe at Easton is a comedy show and food all in one. Once again, Easton is a little further than some of these other options, but the pull of a comedy show PLUS food for only $2 per person is enough that you should absolutely go. Just make sure you’re 21 or older, otherwise they won’t let you in (except for the Wednesday 7:30 p.m. shows).

So, whether you’re dating your high school sweetheart, or if you just shot your shot via OSUCrush, or if you’re just looking for a way to make your Tinder profile pop (“i have two tickets to the Franklin Park Conservatory for anyone who super likes me”), be sure to keep these low-cost date ideas in mind next time you want to go out on a date.
